In Rheinpark Golzheim, riverside paths meet open lawns. Jogging, ball games and shared recreational exercise are among the activities described in the city's account of the park. Rheinpark Golzheim lies on the right bank of the Rhine, north of the centre, with the river providing an easily recognised reference point for a run. It is an outdoor starting point for getting to know sport in Düsseldorf, before organised training groups and the larger venues come into view.

The city's Sport im Park programme also provides outdoor health and fitness training without advance registration. The published 2026 summer season ended on 4 October and is already over on 17 October. The city page identifies training locations and points to further offerings from the Stadtsportbund, the city sports federation. When a suitable programme is running, an independent riverside routine can therefore be complemented by a guided session.

Club life and its grounds

For regular exercise with others, the Stadtsportbund offers a club search. A preferred sport can be the starting point; the training location and group then turn a general interest into a specific appointment during the week. Where the park provides an informal meeting place, clubs lead to the halls and pitches where training takes place.

Some club names also lead through the city's sporting history. Fortuna Düsseldorf now plays its home matches at the MERKUR SPIEL-ARENA. Flinger Broich nevertheless remains part of both its history and its continuing football activity: the Paul-Janes-Stadion, a former Fortuna home ground, still hosts its under-23 and youth teams. For anyone who associates the club only with the large arena, this is a second, older point of reference.

Alongside its football grounds, Düsseldorf has a major ice-hockey venue in the PSD BANK DOME. The arena in the north of the city is the home of Düsseldorfer EG, usually known as DEG.
