History and Development
Kalkum is one of the oldest documented settlements in the Düsseldorf area. Schloss Kalkum – in its essential parts from the 18th and 19th centuries – was the seat of Rhenish noble families and is now owned by the Westfälischer Heimatbund. The building and its landscape park are listed cultural monuments. The district's history is closely intertwined with the palace that for centuries formed the centre of local life.
