History and Development
Like its left-bank neighbours, Volmerswerth was for centuries an independent Rhine-side settlement. River shipping, agricultural land and the floodplain position shaped daily life. Only in the 20th century was Volmerswerth incorporated into Düsseldorf as a formal district, retaining its small-scale character through the process.

Rents in Volmerswerth are modest. Detached houses with gardens – a rarity in inner-city-adjacent parts of Düsseldorf – are comparatively common here.
